Batwoman 11
Here we are at the final chapter of To Drown The World. It seems some of you like where we’ve got things set for the ending. Now that its all done, I feel we’ve been relatively successful in setting out to do what we intended to with this arc. For the most it the narrative experiment has worked, and I’m sure when read as a whole it’ll be even stronger. Thanks to the efforts of Amy Reeder, Trevor McCarthy, Pere Perez, Todd Klein, and Guy Major.

Cool. Good news: while the nearest comic shop is a five hour drive away, I’ve managed to set up a subscription service with them to have my comics delivered by mail. So I won’t have to travel to Edmonton to get comics anymore. I’ll still be getting them later than most folks, but at least I’ll be getting them.

A few questions I wanted to ask (thinking about the upcoming Batwoman #0 issue and how it might reveal new details of her origin) : since Kate was in the U.S. military and presumably trained to kill, when/why did her views on killing change? Clearly she’s on Batman’s “no killing” rule now, but did that cause her any conflict or did she just accept it as being necessary to getting Batman’s acceptance for her to use the Batwoman mantle?

Hey there CraigM
You know this is a good question. One that isn’t spelled out clearly in Elegy. The way I see it is that because she has modeled herself after the ideal that Batman represents, she believes in its sanctity. However this will become an important theme coming down the road a ways, as this conflict of killing or not killing keeps rearing it’s head. As we’ve seen in the recent To Drown The World arc finale, her unwillingness to kill or allow others to do so has caused big ramifications in losing saving the children again. This ideology she has maintained will be increasingly tested as time moves on from story to story.

This is one of the first comic book series that I’ve bought from ComiXology and read entirely on my iPad. Could be the future of comics for me. Much cheaper and easier to carry around. You just miss the 3D aspect of holding paper and staples in your hands but the view technology let’s you zoom into each panel and see it much bigger than the paper version. Now to update. Already got From Hell and Watchmen on my iPad. Next up Love & Rockets.
🙂

Thanks for buying the book for your iPad. My own personal preference, I just don’t find it comforting or pleasant to read on a digital device :^) Doesn’t work for me.

I’d rather have the paper version too but this way I know I’ve got it forever unless I lose the iPad. Oh and I’ve also got all of Chase on my iPad too but I’d already read some of those before.
Right now I’m about 3/4 of the way through Neil’s take on the Eteranals on the iPad. Just a lot easier to read on the train. Wish he’d write more comics. Wait isn’t he doing some more Sandman 🙂

Love The Eternals, both Neil’s and Jack’s versions.

Well, I just got home from vacation and tore through Issue # 11 and loved it. Really enjoyed the Maggie/Kate moments at the end, too. Nice touch there. Can’t wait for the next arc to start up. And, honestly, I truly enjoyed the narrative style … I don’t want comics to “talk down” to the readers. It really worked.

Bravo to all involved! Well done!
