Hey there Deniz
Thank you very much! Haden has been around awhile just not in the areas that most people know for comics. But his work is very well known in the video game industry and he is a Writer’s Guild Award winner for his efforts. He and I have been working together for years now on creator owned concepts that hopefully will see the light of day. There isn’t much we can really say about the other DC concept that we pitched right now as we may be using pieces of it in Batwoman.
Congratulations, Jim! This is good news! I feared that you would disappear from Batwoman when Rucka’s departure wsa announced. But it turned out fantastic. Looking back at the run I liked the second arc better than the the first. It was more down to earth. Lots of succes and do you have any idea when the series is scheduled?
Comment by Michel Nadorp 04.14.10 @ 11:29 amJim,
This is fantastic news, congratulations! I’ve very happy to learn that we will continue to see you weave your magic with this great character. Good luck to you and Haden (and Reeder) on the project.
I’d say you’ve just had a pretty good couple of days!.
A couple of Eisner nominations and now an ongoing you will write and draw.
Congratulations and the best of luck on both fronts.
Comment by Karl 04.14.10 @ 12:24 pmPhenomenal news! Good to see DC is fully committed to not only Batwoman, but one of her “fathers.”
While having both you and Greg would be ideal, this is still tremendous news. I hope Haden brings the same level of precision and passion to Kate that Greg did.
One big question: when is the series scheduled to debut? That info was missing in the release.
Also, will a JHW# Batwoman statue be forthcoming?
Congratulations!
Comment by DF 04.14.10 @ 1:43 pmWhen I first check The Source today and saw the ‘Batwoman Ongoing’ header I was surprised and admittedly a little concerned, but when I saw you named both the artist AND writer I cracked a huge grin. I’ve never read your written work before but I’m really ecstatic about this move and I can’t wait to get to know you as a writer!
I was wondering who, if anyone, would take over with Kate but in retrospect given Mr. Rucka’s leave I can’t think of anyone I’d trust more than you to take the reins.
Anyway, congratulations! Hopefully this book will put your future creator-owned work further in demand.
Comment by Aria 04.14.10 @ 2:01 pmCongratulations!
This is such wonderful news. I absolutely loved your work on Detective Comics and I’ve been hoping there would be a Batwoman series. After Greg Rucka’s announcement I’d almost given up hope, so this news made my day. I’m very much looking forward to this – I’m sure you’ll continue doing the character justice.
Hello Michel
Thank you for your support and I hope you will find enjoyment out what we end up doing. Right now the schedule isn’t set because drawing has not commenced yet. We are putting all of the plot pieces together this week so we can start scripting soon.
Hey there Tim
Thank you, I hope you will be pleased with the results.
Hello Karl
Thank you, It’s a bit of a whirlwind around here at the moment.
Hey there DF
Thanks so much! See the above answers to the schedule question, and yes there is talk of a statue.
Hello there Aria
I’m glad the news was able to bring a smile to your face. I hope the results of our efforts will support your faith.
Hi Sophie
Thanks for your support and enthusiasm. We will do our best.
Hey JW3,
Saw this news first on the NYT Arts blog. Shows how much attention your work on Batwoman and Batman has generated because it has elevated, in my opinion, the standards of the average ongoing monthly superhero comic.
You deserve all the kudos you’re getting here, and, hopefully, an Eisner award down the road too.
Three questions:
1. Think DC would go for a variant Batwoman #1 printed in B/W? (A request)
2. When will we see Batwoman #1? By year’s end?
3. OK, when’s DC collecting the Chase books? It’ll give us something to read until Batwoman #1 appears!!!
Again, thanks for all your wonderful work on the Bat-books.
All the best,
Wayne
Comment by wayne beamer 04.14.10 @ 2:58 pmHey there Wayne
Thanks for the very kind words and support.
A black and white edition has been suggested, now we’ll see where that goes.
The schedule has not been set because we are VERY early in the process. This decision was made only last week.
We’ll see what the future holds for a Chase collection. That may be possible soon. Or I hope so anyway.
Comment by jhw3 04.14.10 @ 4:12 pmI am THRILLED!!! Wildly thrilled. This was absolutely the right decision and the smartest. I’m excited to see what you have in store for us. I know it’s still in the early stages, but I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
Comment by Christopher 04.14.10 @ 4:25 pmCongrats! Fantastic news. Instead of saying “can’t wait” I’ll opt for… take your time, blow us away all over again! Don’t care if it takes a year. Just knowing more JHW3+Batwoman is planned will sustain until it’s out! Whoohooo. Hooray. Hip hip.
Comment by milton 04.14.10 @ 7:59 pmHey there Milton
We’re building the outline right now, fitting the pieces into place. So we should be in shape to start scripting very soon. Unfortunately it’s the art that will take the most time. And I do hope you find the wait worth it.
🙂
“AN ANNOUNCEMENT…”
An understatement!!! LOL !!!
YES !! Congratulations !! ( on the new Batwoman title and the Eisner noms )
This is just the most super and exciting news!
I can’t think of a better person to detail the life and times of Kate/Batwoman. I’m so thrilled that the writing will be handled by people who are familiar with the character and who know how important Kate is to the whole GLBT community. Not to mention – you know, that she’s just the coolest.
Sincerely, though, this is such a wonderful and exciting turn of events.
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!
Congrats.
Comment by Pam 04.15.10 @ 3:49 amGreat news! Will you still be working with Dave Stewart on the title?
Comment by Kim Scarborough 04.15.10 @ 9:13 amCongratulations Jim !
Great to see that you will show us your hidden storytelling talents.
Just be as demanding on the script as you are on the art 😉
Let’s Batwoman spread her wings over the DC universe.
Comment by Rodolphe 04.15.10 @ 10:11 amHey there Pam
I’m glad you are excited by this news, I thought you might be.
😉
Hey there Kim
Yes Dave is with me on this. I won’t work with anyone else for color anymore. He and I have been partnered up for a few years now. He’s the best.
Hello Rodolphe
I hope you’ll be pleased with the results. I’ve done some writing in the past on Chase, Batman:Snow, and some short story stuff. I just haven’t had the opportunity to go at it again for awhile publicly.
Wow! I am a bit slow on the news uptake, but this has made me so happy!
Comment by Dakota 04.23.10 @ 1:34 pmThis series can’t get here soon enough! I was wondering if you were going to redesign Flamebird’s (don’t know if she’s still going by that name) costume ? It’s not as utilitarian’s as Kate’s. And if so if you could post the design process, I loved the one for the Batwoman costume, Just a thought really looking forward to the series.

Wow. This is spectacular news. SPECTACULAR. I LOVE your work on Chase, and Snow was a great take on Mr. Freeze (RIP Mr. Fisher, an incredible talent himself).
But this is huge! I know nothing of the work of your co writer, but I’m very, very excited about all of this, and I know the art is going to be astonishing. It seems like a natural transition, given the amount of input you seemed to have on the layouts.
If I may be so bold as to ask, can you give any hints as to this other pitch you had in with Mr. Blackman, and/or whether that will still be going through? Obviously you’re going to be incredibly busy, but I’m greedy and intrigued and need to know more! 🙂
Thanks for all your great work on this and every other title you’ve worked on. I have yet to see a piece of work of yours that hasn’t blown me away, be it your issues of Starman/Shade, the Legends of a Dead Earth Flash Annual you did, Chase, Promethea, Seven Soldiers or Detective.
