And A Happy New Year To Everyone!
Sunday January 02nd 2011, 8:49 pmFrom me to all of you, wishing you a better 2011 than 2010.
Below are the Slipcase and Cover images to Absolute Promethea Volume 3. I hope you enjoy them. These were done close to a year ago and I’ve had to hold onto them for this long before revealing. But now that the final volume is available for pre-order at finer shops and book outlets everywhere, I figured it’s time to show them. The cover image was way too complicated to break down into steps for this one. The next post will feature some of that sort of thing for the Batman Incorporated covers I’ve been doing (issue 5 being my last). And then onto the new Batwoman covers. I had been meaning to post images sooner for the new projects but energy around the holidays tends to go in other directions.

Hey JWH3,
Received Abs Promethea vol. 2 from my Ms. for Xmas, and your cover/slipcase designs for vol. 3 are AWESOME. What’s the expected ship date for it? This coming fall?
BTW, your beautiful Batman Inc. covers are making it easier for me to justify buying the book. Thanks!
While I’m at it… Did the 100-page Chase special do well enough for DC to consider publishing the series in a single volume? Or, is DC waiting for a second killer Batwoman collection from you and more awards coming your way first?
I wish you, your family and your Batwomen crew all the best in 2011.
Thanks,
Wayne

So glad you’re getting the Absolute editions, they look quite nice. Volume 3 is in the new Diamond catalogue, but I’m not sure of the actual release date. It seems that this one is solicited earlier in the year than the first two were, so maybe earlier than October, not sure.
Glad you’re digging the Batman Inc. covers as well. Those were fun. I had planned on doing at least the first 12 but scheduling conflicts quickly arose, so I’m bowing out after issue 5.
As for a Chase trade, there was some discussion a couple months back about doing it this year, but I’ve not heard anymore from DC as of yet. If you really want one I suggest you write them a demand it!
😉
Oh man are those cover gorgeous! Can’t wait! Looking forward to the Batwoman ones, too! And Promethea volume 3–YES!!
As sad as I am that my most anticipated comics series, like, *EVAR* is being delayed, I’m glad you’re getting the time you need to do work you’re proud of. I’ll just be patient and be first in line in April.
Also, as a side note, thank you so much for all the travel you do. I know it must be a pain, but it’s so wonderful for fans to be able to meet you in person and get an autograph–or even just say hi. I hope to count myself among those lucky fans soon! (*pulls out golden watch and chain*) You waaaant to come to Emerald City Con…you wiiiiilll come to Emerald City Con… 😉

Thanks so much for enthusiasm over our efforts. I wish I could make it to Emerald City this year but the work schedule just isn’t going to allow travel for 2011.
Nuts! Hypnotism never works on my favorite creators. 😉
That’s disappointing, but the thanks still stands. I have no idea how you manage to keep up with all the work and travel, and still put out art at this *consistent* level of quality. Just nuts! I’d honestly rather see more artwork than appearances anyway…not that that will stop me from keeping my fingers crossed that you might be at SDCC this year. 😉

Thanks so much for all of the support through your collecting. Most likely Absolute Promethea volume 3 will have issue 32 organised the way it is the tpb version. And there will be a poster of it included.
Love the cover and slipcase designs on their own, and I’m sure it will look even more beautiful in gold.
I was kinda hoping though that the spines of the slipcases themselves would match up better. I don’t mean a running image (that hardly ever works well due to printing variances), but a progression of images from volume to volume. It looked like, based on one and two, that the sun emblem would be centered around the spine, growing smaller/closer with each volume, and rising slightly as well. If you look at volumes 1 and 2, you will see what I mean. I like that volume 2, being in the middle, has a nice centered/symmetrical spine (and overall design).
Well, don’t let my comments detract from my praise of the beauty of the pieces — I can’t wait for this final volume. I have the original poster versions of #32 plaqued and hanging on either side of my bedroom door… yes, I am single.
PS – come to a Toronto show.
