Batwoman #3 Out Now!

Wednesday November 09th 2011, 12:51 pm

Can’t believe we’re already on issue 3. I always find it a strange feeling to work on a project that takes awhile to accomplish, but then its release to the public is rapid by comparison to the time it takes to write and draw this stuff. It creates this weird time distortion in my brain. Below is the final print version of this issue’s cover. As you can see, the trade dress is quite different than when I originally posted this cover months ago. After seeing what DC wanted to do for the company logos, my original Batwoman logo colors and placement didn’t work anymore. So I made adjustments, and I think I like this one better…

Looking great!!! :o)

Don’t know if you’ve heard this yet, but the listings for the “new 52” collections have been announced and they are a mixture of HC’s and Tpb’s spread from May right through to November!

Batwoman is a HC (most of the Bat titles seem to be HC’s) and supposed to be released in June (#1-5)

Hey there Alex
Yeah, that is correct, except for one detail. Batwoman Volume 2 (Hyrdrology) will also have the Zero issue to kick it off as the first chapter. Which is how it should be in my opinion.

At least I can read the Chase Tpb and Absolute Promethea while I wait for the the HC 🙂

P.S. Try to check out Sigur Ros’ film, Inni

What an amazing issue! I enjoyed every page. You are scaring me, though… what are you going to do to Flamebird? LOL You guys are rocking with this series!

Hello Peter
Thank you for the kinds words. Gratifying to know that what we are doing is pulling in readers who don’t normally pick american comics.

Hey there JoseVC
Thrilled that you you are still enjoying Batwoman so much. And yeah, Flamebird’s story is going to be… ah, but that would be spoiling it!

First off, have really enjoyed the first two issues, but since money is a little tight right now I can’t afford to get the current issue on my own, so my brother-in-law has decided to buy all my comics for me for the next two months as a Christmas present. So it will be a while, but eventually I’ll get to read Batwoman #3 and #4. (Yay!) Also, very glad to hear that Batwoman #0 will get reprinted in the Hydrology hardcover. Do you know if there are any plans to do a collection of the “Cutter” storyline from Detective Comics? I know Jock and Scott Kolins did the artwork for it, but it did give some spotlight to the Kate/Bette relationship and I was surprised it wasn’t collected in the Elegy hardcover or as part of another collection.

Hey there Craig
Glad you’re digging the series so far. Sorry that you’re finding a tough time of it affording comics. But you’ve got a very nice in-law there, to get you them as a gift. As for the Cutter storyline by Greg, Jock, and Scott, I don’t know if there are any plans to publish that in collected form, but we’re hoping to at least recap it in a opening text piece to the Hyrdology Hardcover, much like what was done at the beginning of Elegy about Batwoman prior to that story. Just so we can bridge the two books together nicely. And I like the idea of a text piece in front of each volume that sets what came before.

Hello J.H, I really enjoyed Batwoman #3! I’ve got to ask, where does your inspiration comes from? I’ve never seen anyone who does paneling like you. I guess I haven’t read a lot of comic but your art keep getting me back to read Batwoman over and over again (Especially Elegy ark!). I think Batwoman is a comic that’s worth every single cent. It’s too bad I can’t find the number zero issue.

Hey there Noah
Thanks very much, I’m glad what I’m doing is getting under your skin. My influences are very broad based, so to name them all would be tedious. But if read through interviews that I’ve, sometimes they go into that area of topic. As for the zero issue, it will be the opening chapter for the Hydrology collected edition hardcover next year.

Hi JH,

I thought this latest issue was one of the best yet. Great stuff. I posted a full review here: http://www.comicsbulletin.com/main/reviews/batwoman-3

I’m loving this series in digital form
on a large monitor. I wonder if you
could pass on my complaint to DC
that Comixology’s 1.5″ center shadow
is defacing all your lovely two page
spreads. Thanks, Steve

Hello David
Thanks very much.

Hey there Steve
I’m not sure if there is anything that can be done about that since I don’t know exactly how they expect the technology to work. But I will pass it on to my editor. I may be a format problem. We’ll see.
