Writings to the universe

Thursday February 02nd 2012, 10:06 pm

Well, it has just been over a full month of diligently working on my daily blog. So far so good, but I don’t know if it is meeting its goals for definition. Thats okay though, as its still discovering itself. And I’m not sure if anyone is actually enjoying it or not, or even reading it for that matter. If you are already reading 2306152 at the tab located above, I surely appreciate it. There are so many distractions in our daily lives, so many things to pay attention to, so if you are giving my blog a few minutes of precious time each day, I thank you. If you wish, please drop me a line to let me know what you think of it so far, I am curious. And if any of you haven’t read it yet, please pop up and click the link, and hopefully you find it worth your time.

I’ve been reading your blog since the first post and it’s been a daily pleasure to discover what you’ve written every morning and see your style evolve. At first, you seemed like you could go into self parody by describing different aspects of your life but the description have gotten less abstract and more specific to your life, which makes it all the more personal and intriguing. I made it a point to read each of your post and so far I haven’t skiped one.

I’ve been subscribed to the blog in my RSS reader for a few weeks now since I came here looking for art to buy. It’s a very interesting read every time. Keep it up!

Hello Mathieu
Thanks for sharing your views on the daily blog feature I’m attempting. I’m glad you seem to find it worth your time each day, very nice to know someone is reading it regularly. As for abstractness, yeah I’m sure it’ll come up pretty often. One of my goals is to paint pictures with words of sometimes very ordinary things, sort of contextualizing the things we almost take for granted in our busy lives. But I’m trying to do those written pieces without saying what it is till the end, challenging myself. But yeah, I’m going with whatever feels right at the time of writing, whether it be describing an object or a feeling, or thoughts on an idea or event, or simply doing something mundane as putting on socks. I want the blog to be organic and write about whatever comes to mind.

Hey there Rory
Thanks for RSSing the blog. Excited to know that you find it interesting enough to give it your time. I’m amazed I’ve done this for 33 days so far, without feeling stuck on what to say each day. We’ll see how tough that gets, 11 months to go.

Count me in as a daily reader, it’s part of my routine of surfing the web before heading off to work. I try to guess at what it is you are describing and most of the time guess [comically] wrong. Keep it up! I look forward to these every day. I do wish though that there was some way of hiding the daily “title subject”. My eyes tend to wander, and I’ll accidentally read what it is you are describing which kind of ruins it for me. Maybe there’s a way to obscure the “subject” and then reveal it on mouse-hover-over? Just a thought…
PS – I tried to comment earlier, but the captcha was acting weird?

Hey there Ubence
Cool you’re enjoying it enough to look forward to them. I find it challenging to write something each day, or at least finding a subject, not the writing itself. In most case I seem to choose minutes before actually writing them, so its sort of spontaneous for me.

Interesting idea of hiding the “title subject”. I don’t know if we can do that with my blog writing program.

Hey J3 – I love it. Check it out everytime I visit. It’s like part stream of consciousness dialog, part poetry and part visual drama.

FYI : I can’t seem to leave a comment on the 2306152 page … the comment link is there, but when you click it – nothing. Not sure if that’s intentional or not…

Hey there Pam
Oh thank you, I’m glad you are liking it. I love your description of it, sounds pretty accurate.

Hello Pam
Thanks for pointing out the comments function problem, we’ll see what is going on there and hopefully get it sorted out. And yeah, the art have good homes is important to me.

Hi JHW3, keep doing it this way! Your work is incredible and I think it’s good to see it out of the comics, I mean we’re not obliged to wait for the next issue to see something new haha. It’s good to see what you’re working on, and what your draws look like without the color. We have the history of the draws, your commentaries and that’s a realy good point! I liked when you shared the musics you were listing when you were drawing. Your world is amazing, very inspiring, fascinating, rich/complete (do you say it this way ? I’m french, sorry for the mistakes!) and it’s a real pleasure to read your blog! Oh, and your organization is clear! Just keep it up ;)!

Hello Manon
Thank you such encouraging words. I’m happy you like what I’m doing here on my site. I’d be doing so much more if I had time. And yeah, I’ll blog a list of music I’ve listened to over the past weeks soon.

Enjoying these a lot. Great exercises. I think the experience you’re gaining through making these will show in your comics writing, and it will show fast. Your writing is already quite good, but you’re getting better. Seeing the process from here is a very interesting experience.

Hey there Ales
Thank you, glad you’re enjoying them so far. I’m enjoying doing them. And yeah, I hope having this going on teaches me something and impacts other work in some way toward the positive. The number one thing I find it doing for me right now is being very present in myself each day. Paying attention to the here and now in some unique way each day I feel is important in these busy times we live in. We all so much have to focus on whats ahead, and sometimes we miss whats right in front of us. Its the old adage “You have stop every so often to smell the roses”.

Jim,
I agree. David Lynch nails some of the points you brought up quite nicely in his book ‘Catching the Big Fish’ – it’s mostly about meditation and art. I come back to it at least once a year.

Comment by Ales Kot 02.12.12 @ 12:53 pm

Hey there Ales
I’ll have to check that out. I do love David Lynch.
