Out Now
Thursday April 12th 2012, 1:26 pmBatwoman #8 is out this week.
Still tough going for our cast, and their crossing lives.
We knew going into this arc was going to be challenging, an experiment of sorts with structure. Even though the events happen in linear order for each character, each character’s story beats are on their own timeframe, but inform a bigger picture. Everything is moving forward, not backwards and then forwards. The only plot element separate from this is the “now” scenes featuring Batwoman in the final battle that bookend each issue. The moment that every other story beat is catching up to. We realize that it can be easy to focus on the timestamp caption, but when following the plot elements, it all connects up as the arc progresses.
But just to twist it, frustrating us, we have a glaring typo that slipped by everyone, and I mean EVERYONE working on this book. And it unfortunately causes some confusion of when the events take place.
Just simply replace the Chase’s Story “one week ago” caption, with “six nights ago” instead. Since that is clearly the same night as Maggie’s Story scene. Its an unfortunate error that went by when proof reading. But ya know, things happen mistakes can get missed. But I felt it would be wise to post a clarification.
This issue sees the third installment from Amy Reeder’s art, here is her atmospheric cover for this issue…

Hey there Lars
Thanks very much. When you examine the story as it is right now, besides the “now” scenes, everything else does move linearly. We’re just following different people linearly at different points in time for their own lives, but the plot elements match up, and each person’s story move forward in time. What I like about this, it keeps the story from being a spoon feed. I’m glad you like the Sune character, we’ve some interesting things planned for her.

I noticed that too. I admit that the non-linear narrative was a bit jarring at first, but *SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t read the issue yet* but Sune’s appearance at the end made it all worth it. I hope we’ll be seeing more of her in the upcoming arcs. I can’t wait to see how you draw her.
